The big feast of Christmas is nearly upon us, 6 days away now. So what will be on your table on the big day or do you even bother cook? The festive season is usually the time that a lot of people will drop off their good eating habits and indulge a little or a lot more in the colossal amount of sugar that abounds. Last year I made the mistake of finishing off a 30 day paleo challenge just before Christmas and the effect of hitting the C6H12O6 was felt for a good few weeks after and reminded me of just how fast it can become normal again. Do your best to leave the treats to a few times over the holidays so that January has a fighting chance of being constructive as opposed to just being recovery 🙂
Cook Books are something that Paddy asked me about this morning (well in fairness he text me last week but is normal reply speed for me). The number one book is Darina Allens ‘Forgotten Skills of Cooking’. This is the food bible and contains a huge amount of recipes that fit into our food philosophy. Number two and three are books by Jennifer McLagan called ‘Cooking on the Bone’ and her later book ‘Fat’ I don’t think anymore needs to be said here. Number 4 is ‘Nose to tail’ by Fergus Henderson – plenty of good ideas with what to do with the other pieces that are usually very nutritious and number 5 is any Jamie Oliver cook book, simplicity itself . I don’t own any of the really good River Cottage books yet but Meat and Fish are on my Amazon wishlist (further down the weightlifting books unfortunately)
What books do you jump to for dinner or the big occasion, Lets help Paddy out with his foray in to the cullinary arts.
